![]() 3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: Daniel's Confession and Prayer (538 B.C.)ġ In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans 2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. And it is the clearest, brightest, prophecy of the Messiah, in all the Old Testament. He is informed concerning the redemption of the world by Jesus Christ (of which that was a type), what should be the nature of it and when it should be accomplished, ver 24-27. He is assured of the speedy release of the Jews out of their captivity, ver 20-23. ![]() An immediate answer sent him by an angel to his prayer, in which, 1. Daniel's prayer for the restoration of the Jews who were in captivity, in which he confesses sin, and acknowledges the justice of God in their calamities, but pleads God's promises of mercy which he had yet in store for them, ver 1-19. ![]()
